Distillate of Wormwood, Distillate of Green Anise, Distillate of Sweet Fennel, Distillate of Coriander, Distillate of Hyssop, Esprit verte.

The distillates are also available individually but by buying six distillates together as a set you will get them at an attractive discount, if you buy all nine together you will receive the additional three distillates at a 15% discount!

Liqueurs de France is pleased to offer you a selection of eight individually-distilled botanicals and an esprit vert which can be used to create your own absinthe by blending them together. You can also use the distillates to familiarise yourself with the taste and aroma of each constituent of absinthe or even enjoy them on their own as a unique eau de vie! Blending absinthe from distillates (or alcoholates) is a tried and tested process used by distillerie Paul Devoille in Fougerolles. Examples of absinthes produced in this way include our Enigma verte and blanche, La Coquette and Les Parisiennes range.

Blending absinthe from distillates (or alcoholates) is a tried and tested process used by distillerie Paul Devoille in Fougerolles. Examples of absinthes produced in this way include our Enigma verte and blanche, La Coquette and Les Parisiennes range. We suggest that you get to know your distillates first, by 'nosing' them you will come to recognise the botanicals in the absinthes you already know. Taste them (diluted) to recognise the flavours, you may even find that you discover a new eau de vie! When blending the distillates together remember that the so called 'Holy Trinity' of plants is Wormwood, Green anise and Fennel, these botanicals are found in all absinthe and some Swiss la Bleues only had these three plants. Anise and Fennel provide flavour and body to the absinthe and Anise in particular contributes towards the louche. The next most common louching ingredients found in old absinthe recipes were Coriander and Badiane, both are rich in terpenes. Finally, the 'high notes' are provided by Hyssop, Angelica and Genepi, all very fragrant plants which contribute to the flavour. Start by identifying the flavours in an absinthe that you know, then blend together the botanicals until you arrive at an absinthe that is uniquely yours!

You can also use the distillates to familiarise yourself with the taste and aroma of each constituent of absinthe or even enjoy them on their own as a unique eau de vie!

These recipes are from Brevans ‘La Fabrication Des Liqueurs’, 1908. The weights of plant materials given were to make 10 litres of absinthe. They are reproduced as indications only as, it is not possible to convert the weights in the recipes into volumes of botanicals. However these recipes give an indication as to which ingredients, and their relative amounts present in a particular style of absinthe.

Customer Reviews

The kit is very nicely packaged.  I purchased this blending kit as a Christmas gift. I appears to be a very good selection of herbal blending choices.   Robert Zelley -
